I know I didn’t finish. But I’m going to finish. Just like I finished last year, too late and too slow and behind everyone else. Deal with it.

i carry the ghost
of our first kiss under a rib
on the left side of my body.
it is wrapped carelessly
in a suede cloth.
it slid gently into my chest
to find its resting place.
it was the softest surprise,
the most delicate treasure
i wanted to keep inside.
safe.

the surprise
of your sweetness
is still
the ghost that haunts me.
i know,
because it is the thing
that doesn’t
quite
fit.
