People have all these magnificent reasons for living,
and I helped mine box up underwear and teacups
and forget me. Sometimes,
walking in opposite directions is the only other obstacle
that you haven’t given yourself the right to conquer.
All the grocery bags you can’t carry on your own.
The nights that you ache.
It is worth it. It is worth it. It is worth it,
you tell yourself,
in increasing doses, enough to chew and wake up,
only to wake up ravenous and become an insomniac,
with magnificence slowly cooling in your chest,
still burning you with sparks from embers,
unsure if you even have a teapot, unsure if you need it now,
or at all.
